Terminally ill Children's Ministry
We also give children permission to be angry, and to grieve for their loss. Many of them have never had a childhood, and will not see adulthood. They sometimes feel they have been cheated out of every good thing in life. We work hard to remain honest and transparent with children on the progression of their illness. Dying from AIDS and secondary infections is too often a slow, painful and miserable process. Their suffering is heartbreaking.
We try to prepare them spiritually for the end, and reassure them that Jesus is with them every step of the way. We make sure that they understand what will happen at death, and that they do not need to be afraid. These children are confident that they are going to a beautiful place where Jesus lives, where no one is ever sick, or tired, or hungry, and there are no more bad people to hurt them. They know that Jesus is excited that they are coming home to be with Him forever. These precious children leave us understanding how deeply they are loved, and how much they will be missed.

Some of our children develop full-blown AIDS and
die while in our care. Our Terminal Care Ministry reaches out to
children to provide quality of life at the end of life. Our goal
is to provide good palliative care at home, if possible, to make
them comfortable throughout their illness. We want dying children
to be surrounded by their Mother and Auntie, their brothers and
sisters, their toys, pets, and favorite things. We want them to
still be a part of the family, and to be emotionally supported by
the family. We work closely with the staff at Makonde Christian
Hospital to maintain the highest level of medical care at the end
of life.
