Eden Children's Village SchoolEden Christian Academy was founded in 2005 in response to the large number of AIDS orphans in our care that required extensive remediation.  Most orphans come to Eden between two and five years behind in school, as they have been caregivers for their parents as they have been dying.  They often feel stupid when they realize that they are much older and bigger than their classmates, regardless of their academic abilities or performance.  Many of our children fail repeatedly in public school, and Eden Christian Academy was formed to address learning problems.

Eden Christian Academy uses Accelerated Christian Education curriculum through a programme called BLESS (Basic Literacy and Educational Support System) which has been tailored for AIDS orphans in Africa.  Children are tested to determine their mastery level in each subject.  Any educational deficits form the beginning curriculum for each child.  For instance, if a child is a seventh grader, and did not learn multiplication tables in the fourth grade, then their ACE studies begin with multiplication.  Children must achieve a minimum of 80% in each learning module, or the module is repeated.  In this way, the child masters all subject matter.

The ACE curriculum has the great benefit of allowing each child to learn at his own speed.  Many of our children fail in public school because they are not learning in “lock step” with other students (everyone learning the same thing at the same speed).  The ACE curriculum allows each child to learn at their own pace.  They set goals for the week, and work towards reaching those goals.

Eden Children's Village SchoolWe are very excited about the changes we have seen in our children at Eden Christian Academy.  They are achieving far more than we anticipated, and their self-esteem is through the roof.  No longer do they think of themselves as stupid.  They are confident in their achievements, their goals, and their futures.  We are proud of their hard work!

We are also proud of our teaching staff.  We are blessed to have committed Christian teachers who see their roles as ministry as well as education.  They care deeply for their students, and take time to work with them individually.  Their commitment to their task is one of the keys to the success of Eden Christian Academy.
